SIR BERNARD LOVELL SCHOOL
The School was last inspected by Ofsted in March 2011 and was awarded an overall grade 1 (outstanding) judgement.
At SBL we provide an education that enhances the international and intercultural competencies in order to prepare our students to live and work within an interconnected world. The International dimension can inform the whole school ethos leading to a school that is inclusive, just and democratic and promotes social and environmental responsibility, respect and cooperation.
Globalisation has vast implications for all of us.
Enquiry-based learning
Our school is one which develops individuals who love to learn, who are creative and questioning, and who feel confident undertaking the challenges that will enable them to thrive in the adult world. Some of the Junior Academy curriculum is delivered through Enquiry-based learning.
Enquiries last from 2-6 weeks, and are focused around a range of Essential Questions designed to encourage students to explore, collaborate, lead and research real life issues. Students’ work culminates in a public exhibition and celebration of learning.
Through a system of critique throughout the process, teachers and students work hard together to ensure that progress in each subject area is strengthened and developed.
Students are assessed at six weekly intervals.
